Bubble Tea Festival in the US Draws 18,000 Visitors — Taipei Times
The eighth Taiwan Bubble Tea Festival, dedicated to Taiwanese culture, took place in Rockville, Maryland, US. According to the Taipei Times, Taiwan Sister Cities director Minze Chien said the event was attended by 18,000 people.
Taiwanese food and performances
The festival was organized by Taiwan Sister Cities and the Rockville Sister Cities Corporation. Visitors could try bubble tea, minced pork rice and gua bao buns, as well as watch performances featuring Taiwanese songs and dances.
According to Chien, 43 booths operated at the festival, 22 of which offered food and beverages. Five booths sold bubble tea, including drinks from the Taiwanese brand 50 Lan. The booths also represented Hong Kong and Ukraine.

Officials at the festival
The event was attended by Taiwan's representative to the US Alexander Yui, his deputy Yang Yi-shan, Ingrid Larson of the American Institute in Taiwan's Washington office, and Rockville Mayor Monique Ashton.
Ashton said that Taiwan and the US share the values of democracy, inclusiveness and cooperation. According to her, bubble tea has already become a common drink in Rockville. Chien noted that favorable weather helped increase attendance: one year, only 3,000 people came to the festival because of heavy rain. She also called the event the largest bubble tea festival in the US.
