Finland Will Strengthen Ukraine's Air Defense Ahead of Russia's Winter Attacks
Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that his country will provide Ukraine with critically important air defense capabilities.
Allies are also working to provide Ukraine with additional capabilities to intercept ballistic missiles. According to Stubb, Finland aims to significantly strengthen Ukraine’s air defense to help the country withstand potential large-scale attacks by Russia this winter.
In his view, Ukraine’s air defense is a key issue on which all of Kyiv’s allies must focus.
Stubb also emphasized that he had already discussed this topic with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“We will provide Ukraine—I won’t say exactly what we will provide—with certain critically important air defense systems that are still in Finland. We all know that winter is approaching. Finns and Ukrainians know a thing or two about winter,” Stubb noted.
According to him, it is now extremely important to help Ukraine protect its energy infrastructure, as well as to supply it with generators and diesel engines.
The Finnish president added that Kyiv’s allies must ensure that the coming winter does not deal a severe blow to the Ukrainian people.
Against this backdrop, Stubb highlighted Russia’s capabilities in producing ballistic missiles. He also assured that the search for interceptors for the Ukrainian Armed Forces is ongoing.
“We know that Patriot systems are deployed in various parts of the world—not only in Europe, but also in the Middle East and the United States. And there are many other avenues we need to explore,” Stubb emphasized.
