Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that he sees nothing surprising in the fact that Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó helped organize a visit by then-Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini to Moscow to support his election campaign.
This was reported by Dennik N., citing Fico’s remarks.
Fico emphasized that he had no information about Pellegrini’s election strategy, particularly regarding the visit to Moscow, and stressed: “In 2020, I was practically absent from politics, so I have no basis for commenting on this.”
At the same time, the prime minister added that he does not consider this case to be interference in the Slovak elections. “A violation of the rules is when the British Foreign Office hires a firm, and that firm pays influencers and actors in Slovakia to help ‘Progressive Slovakia,’” Fico noted.
As a reminder, the “Course – Social Democracy” party, to which Pellegrini belonged in 2020 and which is currently led by Fico, lost the election at that time and ended up in the opposition.
Prior to this, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini sharply criticized the previous government for its decision to transfer the entire fleet of MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine.
