Von der Leyen announced changes in Ukraine's favor

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the situation in the war is beginning to shift in Ukraine’s favor. According to her, Ukrainian forces are not only holding the front line but are also regaining some territory. She also emphasized the deepening cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the field of security.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that she has recently seen signs that the situation is shifting in Ukraine’s favor. She made these remarks before the start of the European Council meeting.

According to the head of the European Commission, Ukraine continues to hold its ground and is demonstrating resilience on the battlefield. At the same time, she noted that Ukrainian forces have managed to improve their positions in certain areas. “This is a pivotal moment. I have the impression that the situation is beginning to change. We see that Ukraine is holding the front line and even regaining some territory,” said Ursula von der Leyen.

She emphasized that Ukraine remains an important security partner for the European Union. According to her, cooperation between Kyiv and EU countries is constantly strengthening.

The European Commission President also mentioned the so-called “drone wall” project, which is being developed with the participation of Ukraine and EU member states. This involves joint solutions to strengthen the defense of countries on the EU’s eastern flank. “Ukraine has a very strong position, particularly in working alongside EU member states to create a ‘drone wall’ for countries on the front lines,” she noted.

Von der Leyen emphasized that such cooperation is further proof of how closely Ukraine is already working with the European Union. “This shows just how integrated Ukraine already is into the work of the European Union,” the European Commission President added.

The statement came amid the latest meeting of the European Council, where EU leaders are discussing further support for Ukraine, security issues, and the situation on the front lines. In recent months, European partners have repeatedly emphasized the importance of strengthening defense cooperation with Kyiv. One area of such cooperation has been the joint production of weapons, the development of unmanned technologies, and the strengthening of air defense systems.

Ursula von der Leyen’s statement was one of the most optimistic public signals from EU leadership regarding the situation on the battlefield and the prospects for continued support for Ukraine. She made these remarks before the start of the European Council meeting.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, during which the parties discussed Ukraine’s integration into the European Union and strengthening the protection of Ukrainian airspace.

The European Commission plans to propose on June 16 the opening of the first cluster of negotiations on the accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the European Union.
