France has commissioned MBDA to develop the ASN4G missile, which will be capable of carrying a nuclear warhead

France's Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) has signed a major framework agreement with the leading European defense consortium MBDA to develop the latest ASN4G hypersonic missile.

An official announcement regarding the launch of the project appeared on the French Ministry of Defense’s website.

The new weapon is intended to radically modernize the air component of the country’s strategic deterrence forces and replace obsolete weapons currently in service.

The development belongs to the high-performance “air-to-ground” class and is designed as a potential carrier of a nuclear warhead.

According to preliminary plans by the Ministry of Defense, the advanced system is scheduled to enter service with the French Air Force and Navy around 2035.

The main aircraft platforms for launching these missiles will be the modernized next-generation Rafale F5 multi-role fighters.

Representatives of the defense sector emphasize the critical strategic importance of implementing this complex design project.

“The ASN4G’s capabilities, particularly its hypersonic speed, will ensure the reliability of air deterrence in the face of evolving threats,” noted a press release on the French Ministry of Defense’s website.

This was reported on the French Ministry of Defense’s website.

Ukraine and France Agree to Strengthen Air Defense

Fedorov discussed the provision of Patriot missiles to Ukraine with the Norwegian Minister of Defense.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Russian ambassador for an official meeting and to express a strong protest. The reason for this step was Moscow’s recent statements, which contained direct threats against foreign personnel and diplomatic missions in Ukraine.

In 2025, Russia lost its status as the largest exporter of pipeline natural gas, yielding the top spot to Norway.
