Trump is thrilled about the invitation to dinner at Versailles because it's quite a big deal — Le Figaro
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his delight at receiving an official invitation to a gala dinner at the Palace of Versailles following the conclusion of the first day of the G7 summit.
French President Emmanuel Macron organized this event to mark the historic anniversary of American statehood.
The American leader praised the host country’s gesture and spoke respectfully of his counterpart. He noted the special architectural and historical significance of the venue chosen for the meeting.
The U.S. president is known for his penchant for grandeur and gilded decor, on which he once spared no expense when renovating the White House.
Donald Trump shared his excitement about the upcoming visit and offered his assessment of his French counterpart: “The French president, who, by the way, is a very pleasant person, invited me to dinner at Versailles.”
He also shared his impressions of the palace complex: “Versailles isn’t just gilded. It’s something substantial.”
At the same time, the White House chief acknowledged that participating in this festive diplomatic event would significantly disrupt his usual travel schedule. The official visit will be extended, forcing the American delegation to return home outside of working hours.
However, the U.S. leader noted that such a packed schedule would not be a problem for him.
The American leader commented on the change to his schedule due to the dinner: “But in any case, I don’t sleep very much.”
The organizers of the international summit sought to create the most favorable conditions possible for the American side to fully participate in all scheduled discussions.
French diplomats used this important historical occasion to strengthen bilateral relations.
