Ghana to train at least 100,000 facilitators in AI and digital skills — MyJoyOnline
Ghana’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training Service (Ghana TVET Service) has partnered with UNESCO, KPMG and Microsoft to train at least 100,000 facilitators in the technical and vocational education system in artificial intelligence and digital skills. The agreement under the AI EmpowerED initiative was signed on September 1, 2026, MyJoyOnline reports.
Integrating technology into education
The programme is intended to accelerate the introduction of AI and digital technologies into Ghana’s technical and vocational education system. It provides for building facilitators’ capacity to use the latest technologies in teaching and learning, as well as to use AI responsibly in classrooms.
The initiative will also cover curriculum improvement, instructor training and the introduction of digital tools in selected technical and vocational education institutions.

Partners’ roles
Ghana TVET Service Director General Eric Kofi Adroe said the partnership is needed to ensure that technical and vocational education keeps pace with changes in the global economy. According to him, strengthening facilitators’ capacity will help build a workforce prepared for the economy’s future needs.
Deputy Director General for Management Services Abdul Fatah Maiga Mahama said the programme should help address the risks of using AI in education. He stressed the need to teach facilitators to use the technology ethically, verify its outputs, protect students’ data and take into account biases associated with artificial intelligence.
Ghana TVET Service will be responsible for implementing the programme nationwide. UNESCO will provide policy guidance and technical oversight, KPMG will contribute to programme development and system strengthening, while Microsoft will provide digital infrastructure and AI-based solutions to support teaching, learning and institutional operations. The initiative is also expected to support youth employment, entrepreneurship and innovation.
