US conducts non-nuclear experiment in Nevada — South China Morning Post
The United States conducted an underground experiment involving non-nuclear chemical explosives at the Nevada National Security Site in the state of Nevada. Its purpose was to enhance the country’s ability to detect low-yield nuclear explosions.
Data for detection systems
As the South China Morning Post reports, the experiment was conducted by the US National Nuclear Security Administration, which is part of the US Department of Energy.
The agency said that during the work, data were collected to validate scientific models and improve algorithms important for US nuclear explosion detection capabilities.

Suspicions regarding China
The United States directly linked the experiment to suspicions that China may have conducted a low-yield nuclear test in June 2020 at the Lop Nur test site. Beijing denies these accusations.
The international body monitoring nuclear tests previously stated that the available seismic data do not make it possible to establish the cause of the recorded events with sufficient confidence.
