Ghana plans to establish shelters for survivors of violence in all regions — MyJoyOnline
In Ghana, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection plans to establish a network of shelters for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence in all 16 regions of the country. The facilities are expected to provide protection and rehabilitation assistance to people who have experienced violence.
Existing shelters
Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey said that the government has already commissioned a shelter in Accra and supported two more facilities in the Upper West and Eastern regions. According to MyJoyOnline, survivors can receive protection, counselling and other forms of support at these institutions while recovering from violence and exploitation.

Plans for 2027
Speaking on Wednesday at a government accountability series, Lartey said that the ministry intends to expand the network. In 2027, it plans to build another two to three shelters to improve access to specialized assistance outside Accra.
The minister also said that the Orange Support Centre can be contacted free of charge at 0800 111 222 or via WhatsApp at 055 1755 7575. According to her, expanding the network will allow survivors to avoid travelling long distances to receive the services they need.
