Ghana unveils Black Challenge ahead of Amputee World Cup — MyJoyOnline

Ghana’s Paralympic Committee has unveiled the Black Challenge squad, which will compete at the 2026 Amputee World Cup in the Mexican city of San Juan de los Lagos. The ceremony was held at the ESP Hotel in Accra with the participation of Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams, MyJoyOnline reports.

Support for the team

Kofi Adams urged Ghanaian businesses to increase their support for the athletes ahead of the tournament. He noted that the team needs assistance not only after winning awards, but also while preparing for competitions. The minister also said that the government intends to help provide the team with the necessary support for its performance in Mexico.

His remarks came after Gold Fields pledged to provide Black Challenge with $500,000 in support. Of this amount, $250,000 is expected to be allocated to preparations for the World Cup.

Payments and training camp

Samson Deen, president of Ghana’s National Paralympic Committee, announced financial payments under the NPC Ghana Target the Podium Initiative. If the team achieves the target set by the programme, each player will receive 10,000 Ghanaian cedis, while each team official will receive 5,000 Ghanaian cedis.

Deen urged the players to maintain discipline, respect their coaches, monitor their fitness and take every training session responsibly. The final stage of Black Challenge’s preparations is due to begin with a training camp in Turkey next month. The Amputee World Cup will run from November 13 to 22, 2026.
