US attorney general says new data emerged on attempt on Trump
In the United States, Attorney General Todd Blanche said that new information has emerged about Thomas Crooks, who fired at President Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in 2024. The Jerusalem Post reports this, citing a White House briefing.
Data on the shooter
According to Blanche, the new information concerns the shooter himself, his biography and background. The attorney general did not specify what information was discovered or under what circumstances.
During the rally, Crooks fired eight shots from a rifle from the roof of a nearby building. He was shot dead by a U.S. Secret Service sniper.

Trump’s statements about the FBI
Several hours before Blanche’s statement, Trump criticized the FBI under Joe Biden’s administration in a post on X. He claimed that by the time he took office on January 20, most materials in the case had allegedly been missing, altered, distorted or lost, and that the new data had only now been discovered.
The president also, without evidence, called the attempt an “Democrats’ plan” aimed at removing him from the election and said that former FBI Director Christopher Wray should be held accountable for the agency’s response to the attack and for his statements. Blanche, who was Trump’s personal lawyer at the time of the shooting, said that the president’s dissatisfaction with Wray’s actions was not new. The U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment, and reporters were unable to reach Wray.
