Israel says it eliminated a Hamas brigade commander in the Gaza Strip
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security service said they eliminated Nael Abu Obeid, the commander of Hamas’s Rafah Brigade, in a strike in the southern Gaza Strip. According to the Jerusalem Post, Abu Obeid took command of the brigade after the death of its previous commander, Muhammad Shabana, whom the Israeli military killed in May 2025.

The IDF and Shin Bet reported the operation in a joint statement on Tuesday, September 15. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the strike. They said that no terrorist has immunity and that Hamas will not be in Gaza.
