Gavin Newsom puts California estate up for sale for $7.5 million
California Governor Gavin Newsom has put his estate in Fair Oaks, a suburb of the state capital Sacramento, up for sale. The Spanish-style house is being offered for $7.5 million.
As The Guardian World reports, the listing appeared on Monday, ahead of the end of Newsom's gubernatorial term in January. The house has seven bedrooms and 12 bathrooms, while the estate sits on an 8.2-acre, or 3.3-hectare, plot.
Wine cellar and tennis court
According to the Zillow listing posted by realtors Matthew Gindy and Nick Sadek, the estate includes a full-size tennis court, a swimming pool, a cold plunge pool and a hot tub. The house also has a wine cellar designed to hold 5,000 bottles.
Newsom moved into the home with his family in 2019, after briefly living in the historic governor's residence in Sacramento. At the time, a spokesperson said the new estate was better suited for children.

Time between Sacramento and Marin
Since then, the Newsom family has divided its time between Sacramento and Marin County, located north of San Francisco, where it also owns property. In 2024, Newsom enrolled his children in Marin County schools.
In 2020, a protest took place near the estate: participants chained themselves to the fence in opposition to the rising number of deaths in California prisons during the coronavirus pandemic. In 2024, Newsom also hosted a political fundraising event there for Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who was then running for US vice president for the Democratic Party.
Newsom was elected governor of California in 2018. He is openly considering taking part in the Democratic Party primaries ahead of the 2028 presidential election.
