Ofer Winter criticizes Katz’s statements on Gaza — Jerusalem Post
In Israel, the chairman and founder of the Israel’s People party, reserve brigadier general Ofer Winter, criticized statements by Defense Minister Israel Katz regarding the Gaza Strip. He called on the minister not to make threats that the authorities do not intend to carry out, the Jerusalem Post reports.
Statements on evacuating Gaza
Katz stated that if Hamas takes even one Israeli hostage, the remains of Gaza City will be destroyed and about one million Gaza residents will be forced to evacuate. According to the publication, the minister linked these statements to the growing threat of possible aggressive actions by Turkey, Iran, and Iran’s terrorist proxies, including Hamas.
Winter said that such rhetoric substitutes for real action. In his view, Hamas will not take the threats seriously because, he said, 251 people had previously been abducted, but a full evacuation of Gaza did not take place then.

Call to change the approach
The politician also said that three years after October 7, Israel is still talking about vigilance at the border, fears abductions, and threatens to respond to Hamas’s actions. Winter called for a shift from a policy of response and deterrence to proactive actions aimed at achieving a decisive outcome.
He also stated that the Israel’s People party must be strong in the upcoming elections in order to prevent a repeat of previous events.
