Gibney calls Musk dangerous for democracies in Venice
American documentary filmmaker and Academy Award winner Alex Gibney said at the Venice Film Festival in Italy that Elon Musk is “extremely dangerous for democracies around the world.” The director made the assessment during the presentation of his new documentary Musk, ANSA English reports.
According to Gibney, Musk’s support for right-wing parties in Germany, Turkey, the United Kingdom and Brazil is linked to both ideology and economic motives. The director believes such governments may be more accommodating, while Musk, in his view, is advancing a global right-wing agenda.
Three-hour film
The film was screened out of competition. It runs for three hours and includes a 10-minute intermission midway through. The film is structured in chapters and tells about SpaceX, Tesla, Musk’s childhood, his family, his relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump, as well as the acquisition of Twitter, now called X.

As Gibney noted, the work is based on documents, other materials and dozens of testimonies from colleagues, former friends, opponents and journalists who investigated Musk’s activities. Participants in the film include Musk’s first wife Justine Wilson, his father Errol Musk and his brother.
Statements by film participants
Influencer and political commentator Ashley St. Clair, who appears in the film, said she was offered $40 million to remain silent. Earlier, she filed a lawsuit against the SpaceX founder, claiming that he is the father of her child. After that, according to the report, St. Clair received insults and threats on social media from Musk’s supporters.
Gibney also suggested that DOGE employees may have had access to a significant amount of U.S. citizens’ data. In his view, this data could potentially be processed using artificial intelligence to influence the U.S. midterm elections; the director called such a scenario a plausible hypothesis.
