Hewitt asks Infantino to release FIFA records — Cyprus Mail
In Cyprus, Football Association chair and FIFA vice-president Debbie Hewitt sent a letter to FIFA president Gianni Infantino asking him to release records concerning the scrapped plan to involve private investors in the World Cup and the suspension of United States forward Folarin Balogun’s ban. Cyprus Mail reported this, citing a source at the Football Association and Reuters.
Review of the investment plan
According to The Times, Hewitt sent a letter to Infantino and FIFA secretary general Mattias Grafström this week. She also called for an independent review of the plan to sell a commercial stake in the World Cup to private investors.
Infantino has come under increased pressure following the presentation of this proposal. UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation and Concacaf, among others, opposed the plan. They called for changes in FIFA’s leadership.

Balogun’s ban
Balogun received a red card in the 2026 World Cup round-of-32 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which the United States won 2-0. He was handed a one-match ban, which meant he was set to miss the round-of-16 match against Belgium.
After that, US President Donald Trump asked Infantino to review the punishment. FIFA suspended the one-match ban for one year. The next FIFA Council meeting is scheduled for October 15, and Reuters has contacted the organization for comment.
