India’s foreign minister calls dialogue a path to peace in New York — NDTV

In New York, United States, Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, during a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, stated India’s position that dialogue and diplomacy are the way toward a peaceful settlement of issues in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly high-level session.

India’s position

As NDTV reports, the sides discussed developments in recent weeks. Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that New Delhi maintains contact with both Ukraine and Russia, the aggressor state, and is ready to contribute if it has the opportunity.

According to Jaiswal, India hopes for a peaceful settlement as soon as possible through dialogue and diplomacy. He also referred to Indian Prime Minister’s statement during a meeting with the Russian president in Bishkek that endless wars must come to an end.

Discussion of the Black Sea

In a post on X, Jaishankar said he was pleased to meet Sybiha again after his recent visit to Ukraine. According to him, the conversation focused on developments over the past few weeks.

Sybiha said that he discussed peace efforts, bilateral cooperation, and the international situation with his Indian counterpart. The situation in the Black Sea and its impact on markets were discussed separately. He stressed that restoring freedom of navigation is critically important for global food security, and that Ukraine is ready to play a constructive role and values engagement with India.
