German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated that the country needs nuclear deterrence amid growing security threats.

He emphasized that despite supporting the principle of nuclear non-proliferation, Germany must take current risks into account.
“As long as nuclear threats against us and our partners persist, we will need a reliable deterrent,” the minister noted.
This week, Wadepful will participate in meetings in New York dedicated to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, where issues of disarmament and security will be discussed.
Earlier, Germany and France announced their intention to deepen cooperation in the field of nuclear deterrence amid new security challenges in Europe.
