Rubio Responds to Iran's Proposals on the Strait of Hormuz — Bloomberg

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Iran continues to attempt to maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized that such actions are unacceptable to the United States and underscored the importance of freedom of navigation in the region.

He made these remarks on Monday, April 27, according to Bloomberg.

Responding to a question about reports that Tehran had offered to open the Strait of Hormuz following the cancellation of negotiations, Rubio stated that the U.S. cannot tolerate Iran continuing to decide which ships may pass through the strait or allowing the collection of any Iranian fees.

"If by opening the strait they mean: 'Yes, the strait is open, but only on the condition that you coordinate your actions with Iran, obtain our permission, otherwise we will blow you up, and you will pay us,'—that is not opening the strait," Rubio said.
