The German Interior Minister was evacuated from a train bound for Kyiv due to Russian attacks
Manuel Hagel, Minister of the Interior of the German state of Baden-Württemberg, arrived in Kyiv with a delegation and saw firsthand the consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine. During the visit, the German delegation had to take shelter in a bunker due to Russian airstrikes on the capital.
A spokesperson for the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior reported that the delegation had to take shelter in a bunker overnight due to airstrikes on Kyiv.
In addition, while Manuel Hägeli and his companions were traveling through the city, a drone was shot down over Kyiv.
The German delegation also faced danger upon its arrival in the capital. According to the spokesperson, delegation members were evacuated from the train shortly before arriving at Kyiv’s main train station due to an air raid alert.
The ministry spokesperson did not disclose any further details regarding the itinerary or security measures, citing security concerns.
As the spokesperson noted, representatives of German businesses, including companies from the security sector, arrived in Ukraine alongside the minister.
During the visit, representatives of Daimler Truck and Lviv University signed a cooperation agreement.
The Ministry of the Interior of Baden-Württemberg stated that the purpose of the trip was to develop economic relations with Ukraine and exchange technical expertise.
On social media, the German ministry quoted Manuel Hägeli on the need to adapt security policy to new threats.
“We now need to modernize our security architecture and ensure our defense capabilities at all levels against these new threats. Security policy is economic policy,” Hagel stated.
Thus, the German delegation’s visit to Kyiv combined issues of security, economic cooperation, and the exchange of expertise, while the firsthand experience of being in the capital during Russian attacks became part of the trip.
At the same time, the delegation witnessed firsthand the realities of war, including air raid alerts, airstrikes, and the threat of drones.

Russian troops attacked the Zaporizhzhia region with FPV drones. A 34-year-old man was killed in the strikes, and another person was injured.
On September 9, Russian troops attacked the Kharkiv–Izyum train with a “Shahed” drone. Six people were injured as a result of the strike, according to the Izyum City Military Administration.
As a reminder, fires broke out at industrial facilities in the Kyiv region following an attack by Russia.
Russia also launched a massive attack on Kyiv, killing and wounding civilians.
Later, rescue workers showed the aftermath of the strikes on Kyiv.
