PSG goalkeeper Safonov is challenging a 90 million ruble child support order in a Russian court

Matvey Safonov, goalkeeper for France’s PSG and the Russian national team, filed a complaint with the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation challenging provisions of the Family Code after paying more than 90 million rubles in child support for his daughter.

In his complaint, the soccer player asks the court to declare certain provisions of the law unconstitutional, arguing that they do not allow child support amounts to be determined based on the child’s actual needs. He also believes that the absence of an upper limit on payments creates a risk of abuse and unjust enrichment of the recipient.

Safonov notes that the court ordered him to pay a quarter of his income each month. While playing for Krasnodar, he earned between 8 and 12.5 million rubles per month, and after transferring to PSG, according to French media reports, his salary is approximately 250,000 euros per month.

According to the case file, the arrears from January 2022 to May 2025 amounted to 61.2 million rubles, and the total amount of child support paid exceeded 90 million rubles.

The soccer player’s ex-wife continues to pursue legal action, claiming that he is not paying child support from his income at PSG and is not involved in raising their daughter.
