China's State Council approves waste recycling plan for sustainable growth

The Chinese government has endorsed a comprehensive plan to improve resource efficiency, strengthen control and reduction of waste generation, and standardize the collection, transportation, disposal, and storage of waste. This move marks a significant step toward environmental safety and sustainable development in the country.

According to the plan, by 2030 the annual usage of large-scale solid waste is expected to reach about 4.5 billion tonnes, with recycling of key renewable resources reaching 510 million tonnes per year. Priority is given to types of solid waste that directly affect public health and occupational safety.

Chinese authorities emphasize that implementing the plan will reduce environmental and social risks, support the country's transition to a more sustainable development model, and align with the national agenda for a "green" economy transformation.
