Greenland, Denmark and the United States expect to sign an agreement next week in New York, United States, to strengthen security in the Arctic and the North Atlantic. This was reported by Anadolu Agency, citing a statement from the office of Denmark’s prime minister.
Signing on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly
The governments of the three parties are expected to sign the document on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. After signing, the agreement must undergo the necessary parliamentary procedures before it enters into force.

Statements by representatives of Greenland and Denmark
Greenland’s head of government, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, said that the parties are close to reaching an agreement intended to protect and strengthen the security of Greenland, the Kingdom of Denmark, the United States and the Western alliance. According to him, the agreement recognizes Greenland’s interests and its place in international cooperation.
Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said there was a prospect of a good agreement for the three parties. In her view, the arrangement will strengthen shared security in the region and benefit NATO and Europe. She also noted that the agreement recognizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark, as well as the Greenlandic people’s right to self-determination.
