‘Greenland Is Not for Sale,’ Lawmaker Says Amid Trump’s Threats
A lawmaker representing Greenland in Denmark’s parliament has said the autonomous territory will not consider any transfer of control to the United States, as President Donald Trump and senior officials continue to raise the possibility of taking over the island.
The lawmaker said it is important to seek diplomatic solutions and welcomed upcoming talks between US officials and representatives from Denmark and Greenland. She stressed that dialogue is necessary to ease rising tensions.
However, she made clear that Greenland’s position remains unchanged. According to her, the island is not for sale and never will be, regardless of outside pressure or strategic interests.
Trump has repeatedly argued that Greenland is vital to US national security because of its strategic location in the Arctic. His remarks have triggered strong pushback from Denmark, the European Union and several US allies.
Nordic countries have also reaffirmed that security in the Arctic must be based on international law and respect for borders. They stressed that matters concerning Denmark and Greenland should be decided solely by those involved.
Despite diplomatic resistance, the Trump administration has refused to rule out any options, including military action, while stating that diplomacy remains the preferred approach. Greenlandic officials have warned that any discussions must be conducted with mutual respect.
