Ogun State governor signs education fund law — Premium Times Nigeria
Governor of Nigeria’s Ogun State Dapo Abiodun has signed the Education and Skills Development Fund Law. The document creates a legal framework for attracting additional resources for education and vocational training in the state, according to a Premium Times Nigeria report published as a press release.
Areas of the fund’s work
The fund is expected to support educational infrastructure, financial assistance for students, teachers’ professional development, maintenance of educational institutions, and technical and vocational education. It is also intended to promote skills development in formal and non-formal learning systems.
One of its designated areas is the modernization of the traditional apprenticeship system. The report refers to the possibility of structured training, the use of modern equipment and technology, certification, professional standards, and basic business management skills.

Additional funding for education
The fund is intended to supplement, rather than replace, regular education funding from the state budget. Its resources may be allocated to repairing and equipping classrooms, laboratories, and libraries, as well as maintaining and upgrading educational equipment.
Abiodun’s administration said that more than 9,000 young people have already undergone training in various vocational fields. The report also notes that the fund’s effectiveness will depend on funding, transparent governance, accountability, and evaluation of programme results.
The law was signed at the governor’s office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. The ceremony was attended by Ogun State House of Assembly Speaker Oludaisi Elemide, Deputy Chairman of the parliamentary Committee on Education Babatunde Tella, Head of Service Olarenwaju Saka, and Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology Abayomi Arigbabu.
