Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal receives Daily Times award
Dauda Lawal, governor of Nigeria’s Zamfara State, received the Outstanding Governor Award for Nigeria’s North-West region. The distinction was presented to him in Abuja during an event marking the 100th anniversary of the Daily Times newspaper.
Award for the Daily Times centenary
The DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards ceremony was part of the publication’s centenary celebrations. According to Premium Times Nigeria, Daily Times began publishing in 1926 and has covered Nigeria’s political, economic, social and cultural development for a century.
Lawal was recognized for leadership, public service and contributions to national development. Okusagie said that the governor received the most votes in the category following a nomination process and public voting. The Times Heroes Awards Council and other key stakeholders subsequently confirmed his selection.

The governor said that the award reflects his commitment to good governance and effective public service in Zamfara State.
Other honorees included Nigeria’s Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and former President of the African Development Bank Akinwumi Adesina. The source also noted that the Nigerian Grand Book is intended to become a commemorative national publication about people, institutions and achievements that have influenced Nigeria’s development. Its foreword was written by Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
