The band Demon Hunter has filed a lawsuit against Netflix over *K-Pop Demon Hunters*

The American Christian metal band Demon Hunter has filed a lawsuit in a California federal court against Netflix and concert promoter AEG Presents. The band claims that an upcoming concert tour based on the animated film *KPop Demon Hunters* infringes on its trademarks.

According to Channel NewsAsia, the lawsuit was filed on August 18. Demon Hunter stated that the tour announcement could cause confusion among consumers and threatens to “overshadow” the band’s brand. The lawsuit states that Netflix has no right to use the name “KPop Demon Hunters” for a music project, concert performances, or merchandise.

The band cited examples of potential confusion. Specifically, they claim that a parent requested a refund for tickets purchased for a Demon Hunter concert instead of the KPop Demon Hunters show. The band also reported that it received an email from a producer at Inside Edition requesting an interview with one of the songwriters for the film.

In a statement, Netflix called the claims baseless and said it intends to vigorously defend itself in the case. Demon Hunter’s attorney, John Tegranian of One LLP, declined to comment.

Demon Hunter was founded in Seattle in 2000. The band is asking the court to prohibit the use of the name KPop Demon Hunters in music, on merchandise, and in concert promotions, as well as to order the defendants to pay damages, the amount of which is not specified in the complaint.

Netflix released the animated film *K-Pop Demon Hunters* in June 2025. It tells the story of a Korean K-pop band that secretly fights demons. In May, Netflix announced a partnership with AEG for a tour based on the film.
