Japan calls North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs a security threat — Anadolu Agency

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said during the General Debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York that the development of North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs poses a serious threat to international peace and security. She called for the complete denuclearization of North Korea in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

As Anadolu Agency reports, Takaichi also said that Pyongyang uses malicious cyber activity, including cryptocurrency theft, as a source of funding. According to her, the development of North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs and such activity violate relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang

The Japanese prime minister expressed concern over deepening military cooperation between the Russian Federation, an aggressor state, and North Korea. She pointed to concerns about the proliferation of nuclear and missile technologies as a result of strengthening military ties between Moscow and Pyongyang.

Takaichi separately raised the issue of security in the field of digital technologies. She emphasized the need for protection against propaganda and disinformation amid the rapid spread of digital technologies. The prime minister also announced Japan’s intention to hold an artificial intelligence safety summit with international partners as soon as possible.
