Ben-Gvir visited the Al-Buraq Wall in Jerusalem — Anadolu Agency

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir visited the Al-Buraq Wall at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem, Israel, on September 27 on the occasion of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. There, he performed Talmudic rituals and held a large Torah scroll, Anadolu Agency reports.

A local radio station, Kol Barama, shared video footage of the visit on the social media platform X. The footage shows Ben-Gvir, who leads the Otzma Yehudit party, arriving at the Al-Buraq Wall accompanied by dozens of people and under heightened security measures.

According to the agency, the Al-Buraq Wall, also known as the Western Wall, is the western part of the Al-Aqsa compound. Muslims consider the compound Islam's third holiest site. Jews call the area the Temple Mount and believe that two Jewish temples stood there in ancient times.

According to a statement by the Jerusalem Governorate, 1,143 Israelis entered the Al-Aqsa compound in successive groups through the Maghrebi Gate on the morning of September 27. It was the second day of Sukkot, which lasts from September 26 to October 2.

Anadolu Agency also reported an increase in visits to the compound since the beginning of the Jewish holiday period in September, amid strict security measures in East Jerusalem. Rosh Hashanah fell on September 12–13, Yom Kippur on September 21–22, and Simchat Torah is due to take place on October 3.
