UN appoints Turkish diplomat Mehmet Güllüoğlu to two positions — Anadolu Agency
UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher has appointed Turkish diplomat Mehmet Güllüoğlu as Director of the Humanitarian Division of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and Head of OCHA in Geneva. This was reported by Anadolu Agency.
Positions at OCHA
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs stated that Güllüoğlu has more than two decades of experience in humanitarian work, disaster management and public health. OCHA coordinates the global humanitarian response to emergencies and works to ensure that effective assistance reaches people affected by crises.

Mehmet Güllüoğlu's experience
The 44-year-old Güllüoğlu previously headed Türkiye's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority, AFAD, and also served as director general of the Turkish Red Crescent. Most recently, he held the position of Türkiye's humanitarian aid coordinator for Palestine, ensuring the delivery and coordination of the country's humanitarian assistance for Gaza.
From 2021 to 2025, Güllüoğlu served as Türkiye's ambassador to Tanzania. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Marmara University and received training in family medicine, humanitarian aid and EU projects. He also worked as a volunteer doctor for non-governmental organizations in crisis zones, including Palestine, Syria, Somalia, Kenya and Jordan.
