Iran and Qatar discussed a potential peace deal with the U.S. – Reuters

Representatives from Iran and Qatar held talks on the terms of a future peace agreement with the United States. However, Iran has already stated that reaching such an agreement is not yet inevitable or close to being signed. Progress has been made in a number of areas, but it is too early to speak of a rapid breakthrough, as several key issues remain unresolved.

This was reported by Reuters.

Ismail Baghai, a representative of Iran’s Foreign Ministry, confirmed that some progress has been made but emphasized that it is too early for optimistic predictions. A separate key area of the negotiations is maritime security and the conditions for the operation of the strategic waterway in the Strait of Hormuz, where time-limited measures to reduce regional tensions are being discussed.

Iran’s nuclear dossier also remains on the agenda, with Washington insisting on controls over stocks of highly enriched uranium, while Tehran views this issue only in the context of a broader framework agreement that would include the lifting of sanctions and the unfreezing of frozen assets. Amid news of diplomatic contacts, global oil prices have already fallen by more than 4%, hitting a two-week low; however, overall instability in the energy sector persists due to deep differences between the parties regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions and regional conflicts.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Washington does not intend to rush into an agreement with Iran, despite progress in the negotiations.

Iranian state media responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement regarding alleged agreements on opening the Strait of Hormuz, calling it “incomplete and untrue.”

The U.S. reacted strongly to Iran’s plans to introduce a toll system for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, stating that this is unacceptable and could derail any negotiations. Washington considers this strategic waterway critically important and will not allow Tehran to exert commercial or political control over it.

As a reminder, Cuba has restored its power grid following a massive blackout.

Trump also confirmed the U.S. intention to intervene in Cuba.
