Iran and the U.S. have traded accusations following the latest strikes

Iran and the U.S. have traded accusations following the latest strikes

The situation between Iran and the U.S. has sharply escalated following new airstrikes on southern Iran, which Tehran called a violation of the ceasefire. In response, the two sides exchanged accusations, and tensions and oil prices in the region have risen again. Reuters reports on this.

Iran stated that the U.S. strikes on its territory effectively shattered the ceasefire, which had lasted nearly seven weeks, and called these actions a direct violation of the agreements. Washington, in turn, described the operation as defensive and aimed at protecting U.S. military personnel.

According to the U.S. Central Command, the strikes targeted boats and facilities allegedly used to launch missiles and lay mines. In response, Iran announced that it had shot down a U.S. drone and fired at other aerial targets in the Persian Gulf region, warning of a possible retaliation.

Against this backdrop, political rhetoric has also intensified. Donald Trump stated that negotiations with Iran are ongoing, but warned: the outcome will be either a major deal or nothing at all. Meanwhile, officials in Tehran emphasized that countries in the region must no longer serve as a cover for U.S. bases.

The escalation immediately hit global markets. Brent crude oil prices jumped by nearly 3.5% and approached the psychological threshold of $100 per barrel, which has already caused concern among analysts.

Meanwhile, the parties continue difficult negotiations on a possible new memorandum. It calls for a ceasefire on various fronts and the resumption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, but key disputes remain—particularly regarding frozen Iranian assets and the nuclear program.

Separately, a broader conflict is ongoing in the region. Iran insists on a cessation of hostilities in Lebanon, where Israel is conducting ground operations against Hezbollah. All of this is creating a new wave of instability in the Middle East, which is already having repercussions far beyond the region.

The day before, U.S. President Donald Trump announced significant progress in negotiations with Tehran, noting that as part of a potential agreement, Iran could transfer its highly enriched uranium to the United States.

Iran’s Supreme Leader has bannedthe transfer of enriched uranium.
