Iran Secretly Shipped Oil Through the Strait of Hormuz — Bloomberg
Over the past few days, Iran has been secretly moving oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz even before the United States reinstated its naval blockade of Iranian ports. Bloomberg reports this, citing vessel tracking data.
According to the publication, last week, six supertankers subject to U.S. sanctions—capable of carrying a total of about 12 million barrels of crude oil—passed through the Strait of Hormuz into the Gulf of Oman with their transponders turned off.
All of these voyages took place after the U.S. revoked Iran’s temporary oil export license on July 7. Subsequently, the White House reinstated the naval blockade, and U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intention to levy a 20% fee on cargo passing through this waterway with U.S. support.
According to Bloomberg, as of Tuesday morning, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz had almost completely ceased. At the same time, since July 7, not only six supertankers but also a number of other Iranian vessels and ships subject to U.S. sanctions—including oil tankers, gas carriers, and container ships—have left the strait.
According to the agency, it was thanks to these shipments that Iran managed to export about 57 million barrels of crude oil between the two phases of the U.S. naval blockade.
