Israel warns against travel to Ethiopia’s Tigray — Jerusalem Post

Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on the country’s citizens to refrain from any travel to the Tigray region in northern Ethiopia due to a deterioration in the security situation. The warning was issued amid renewed armed clashes in Tigray and adjacent areas and will remain in effect until further notice.

Suspension of air service

Ethiopian Airlines has suspended flights to and from airports in Mekelle, Axum and Shire. No date for the resumption of flights was announced.

As The Jerusalem Post reports, Israelis already in the region were advised to limit non-essential movement. They were also urged to avoid gatherings, demonstrations, military facilities and areas of tension, and to follow the instructions of local authorities.

Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that the situation may change rapidly. Among the possible complications, the ministry cited road closures, communication disruptions, problems with transport and the ability to leave the region.

Israeli citizens were advised not to undertake intercity travel and not to attempt to leave Tigray independently without making sure that the route and destination are safe. Those in the region were also advised to provide the Israeli embassy in Addis Ababa with information about their whereabouts and contact details, as well as to monitor airline announcements.
