Israel seizes about 77,000 eggs with suspicious labeling — Jerusalem Post

Israeli police reported the seizure of a batch of more than 76,000 eggs labeled as products from Israeli markets and sorting stations. According to law enforcement, the eggs actually originated from the territory of the Palestinian Authority. This was reported by the Jerusalem Post.

Truck stopped at checkpoint

A truck carrying eggs was stopped at a checkpoint between the territory of the Palestinian Authority and Jerusalem. Inside, officers found eight pallets containing 2,560 boxes of eggs — approximately 76,800 in total, police said.

Law enforcement confiscated the truck, and the entire batch of eggs was destroyed.

Inspections ahead of holidays

Moshe Ahrak, head of the Central Control and Investigations Unit at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, said the labeling, which the ministry suspects was forged, could have given consumers the impression that the products had undergone the necessary inspections and controls.

According to him, the shipment was intercepted before it reached store shelves. Ahrak also said that the unit had stepped up its work to prevent the sale of unregulated food products during the holiday period.
