The German foreign minister met with Lavrov for the first time since 2022

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in New York. This was Wadeful’s first meeting with Lavrov since 2022.

First contact since 2022

It is noted that this is the first bilateral meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries since the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that the meeting was initiated by the German side.

Call to Stop Hybrid Attacks

According to sources in the delegation, after the meeting, Wadeful called on Lavrov to stop the escalation against Germany, Europe, and NATO. Sources speaking to the publication added that incidents such as the attempted attack in Leipzig and other hybrid attacks will not change Germany’s position on Ukraine.
