Ukraine and Latvia have agreed to cooperate in the field of justice

Ukraine and Latvia have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between their ministries of justice. The document provides for joint work on issues related to Russia’s responsibility for war crimes and the crime of aggression, the search for deported and forcibly displaced Ukrainian children, the digitization of the justice system, and the use of artificial intelligence in the legal sphere.

The memorandum was signed following a meeting between Ukrainian Minister of Justice Denys Maslov and the ministers of justice of Latvia and Lithuania, Edvards Smiltens and Rita Tamašūnienė.

“We discussed Ukraine’s European integration, Russia’s responsibility for international crimes, and the resilience of justice systems,” the statement noted.

Latvia and Lithuania are to share with Ukraine their experience in integrating into the EU’s legal framework, while Ukraine will share its best practices on ensuring the functioning of the justice system amid security challenges. Maslov also proposed launching an expert exchange of protocols and algorithms for crisis resilience, and further cooperation will involve the implementation of joint projects and practical solutions.

Ukraine and Latvia will develop joint drones.
