Alli campaign criticizes Oyo Governor Makinde — Premium Times Nigeria
In Nigeria’s Oyo State, the election organization of Senator Sharafadeen Alli, described in a statement as the APC candidate for governor, criticized the state’s leader, Seyi Makinde. Campaign representatives said they considered the use of diesel generators for street lighting ineffective and pointed to problems with the renovated Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
As Premium Times Nigeria reports, the statement on behalf of Alli’s campaign was released by its media and publicity chief, Bisi Oladele. It was a response to remarks by Makinde, who, according to the publication, called Alli a lawyer who had never been in a courtroom.
Street lighting
Alli’s campaign claims that the Makinde administration spent about 400 billion naira on street lighting that continues to operate on generators. The campaign also said that more than 250 billion naira was spent on generators and described this approach as expensive and harmful to the environment.

The candidate’s representatives questioned Makinde’s management decisions, noting that he had studied electrical engineering. They also said that the previous state administration used solar systems for lighting, while the current authorities dismantled this infrastructure. According to Alli’s campaign, part of the new lighting operates with alternating outages.
Lekan Salami Stadium
Separately, Alli’s campaign alleged that the renovated Lekan Salami Stadium in the Adamasingba area of Ibadan was unable to receive approval from the Confederation of African Football to host continental matches for Shooting Stars. The statement claims that more than 5 billion naira was spent on the facility’s reconstruction and that the project was widely presented in 2021.
The candidate’s representatives also said that, because of this, Shooting Stars had to seek an alternative venue in Abeokuta, Ogun State. They called the situation a reputational problem for the club, its supporters and Oyo State.
