More than 337,000 pensioners in Pakistan received proof-of-life certificates — Dawn
In Pakistan, since August 20, 2026, more than 337,000 pensioners have received free proof-of-life certificates through the National Database and Registration Authority, Nadra. The document officially confirms that the pension recipient is alive, Dawn reports.
How the certificates were obtained
According to Nadra, 174,906 pensioners, or 52%, used the PakID application and obtained the document at home. Another 134,521 people, or 40%, visited Nadra registration centers. A total of 24,248 people, accounting for 7%, received certificates through e-Sahulat centers, while 3,585 people, or 1%, used mobile registration vans.
Pensioners can obtain a certificate online or through the nearest Nadra service channel. The authority urged people to disregard false information about the service and to submit complaints through the hotline, Nadra offices, or e-Sahulat centers. If a CNIC national identity card number is not included in the list of pensioners, the person should contact the relevant authority.

Pensioners’ register
The initiative was launched under a special directive from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in coordination with the interior and defense ministries, the Controller General of Accounts, and the Military Accountant General. According to Nadra, the easiest way to obtain the certificate is through the PakID application. A close family member can also obtain the document on behalf of a pensioner through their own account after the required identity verification.
The free service is available at more than 5,000 e-Sahulat franchises, over 988 Nadra registration centers, and 500 Union Councils. Pensioners receive priority service there without waiting in the general queue. Mobile registration vans, biker services, and ManPack services are available for those unable to reach service points.
The service is part of a reform to create a National Pensioners’ Register. At the first stage, pensioners under the authority of the Controller General of Accounts and the Military Accountant General were entered into it. Authorized banks received a separate service to verify proof-of-life status through the register. Nadra expects that at the next stage, the register will be expanded to pensioners of other federal and provincial institutions, public-sector organizations, and private institutions after the necessary arrangements are concluded.
