Canada has allocated an additional nearly $640,000 to support Ukrainian prisoners of war
Canada will allocate an additional 863,000 Canadian dollars—equivalent to approximately 640,000 U.S. dollars—to support Ukrainians who have suffered as a result of Russian captivity or occupation.
“I am announcing the allocation of more than 863,000 dollars to support Ukrainians who have suffered persecution as a result of the horrific Russian war. Among other things, this includes assistance for victims of conflict-related sexual violence, as well as support for Ukrainian non-governmental organizations working with repatriated civilians, prisoners of war, and children and their families,” Anand said.
She noted that earlier this month, Canada had already allocated approximately 6 million Canadian dollars to facilitate the return of Ukrainian children illegally taken to Russia. “This amount included funds intended to assist in the reintegration, tracing, and return of Ukrainian children, as well as to counter their indoctrination, militarization, and recruitment. Together, these two packages bring Canada’s support—particularly for the return of Ukrainian children home—to nearly 7 million dollars,” the minister concluded.
