Canada has imposed new sanctions on Iran over its support for Russia in the war

Canada has announced new sanctions against Iran in response to its military support for Russia. The sanctions target five individuals and four Iranian companies.

This was reported by the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The sanctions target businesspeople and companies directly involved in the procurement of technologies for the production and supply of weapons used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The ministry emphasized: “These sanctions target Iranian businesspeople and companies directly involved in procurement related to the production and supply of sophisticated technologies used in the manufacture and transfer of weapons by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Iran’s supply of weapons, drones, and technology to malign actors, including proxy regimes and Russia, for use in the war of aggression against Ukraine, fuels conflict, threatens the sovereignty of other states, and violates international norms.”

The Canadian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the country will continue to hold accountable those involved in Iran’s destabilizing activities.

“Canada will punish those who contribute to Iran’s destabilizing actions and will not tolerate acts that undermine regional and international peace and security,” the ministry stated.

The statement also notes: “Canada will continue to take concrete steps to counter Iran’s destabilizing actions, uphold international law, and support the Iranian people, who seek freedom, dignity, and respect for human rights.”

Earlier, the North American Aerospace Defense Command reported the detection of two Russian Tu-142 military aircraft. They were operating in the air defense identification zones of Alaska and Canada.
