Canada has imposed sanctions on another 100 tankers belonging to Russia's "shadow fleet"

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand announced the expansion of the sanctions list, adding 100 tankers from Russia’s “shadow fleet” to it.

This was announced on March 26 ahead of the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting in France, according to the Canadian government’s website

The restrictions are aimed at undermining Russia’s ability to finance military operations against Ukraine. According to the Canadian government, the total number of sanctioned vessels involved in transporting goods for the aggressor country currently exceeds 600.

Anita Anand emphasized that Canada remains steadfast in its support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and the protection of the Ukrainian people’s rights. She noted that pressure through sanctions will be intensified in coordination with international partners and allies until Russian aggression ceases completely. Official Ottawa views these measures as a necessary step to counter Putin’s destructive actions and limit Russia’s military and economic capabilities. Monitoring of maritime transport used to circumvent established international restrictions is currently underway.

Official London has announced a shift toward decisive action against the aggressor’s maritime logistics, authorizing the interception and inspection of vessels belonging to Russia’s “shadow fleet.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for granting British law enforcement agencies the authority to stop and detain the Russian shadow fleet.
