Ramp bridge on Highway 4 in Jyväskylä to close for repairs
In the Finnish city of Jyväskylä, the Aholaita ramp bridge, which carries traffic from the Vaajakoski motorway northbound onto Highway 4, will be completely closed on the night of August 30–31. The restrictions are being introduced due to repairs to expansion joints. This was reported by YLE News.
Teemu Saastamoinen, project manager at Elinvoimakeskus, said that the prolonged closure of the busy bridge would significantly affect traffic. About 6,000 vehicles use the bridge daily, with heavy vehicles accounting for approximately 10% of them. This traffic joins traffic on Rantaväylä, where nearly 20,000 vehicles are recorded every day.
Northbound detour routes
Three detour routes have been provided for northbound traffic. Heavy vehicles traveling north on Highway 4 from the south are advised to head toward Leppävesi from the Vaajakoski roundabout.

Passenger cars can use the Akkala exit near the Rauhalahti power plant and access Vaajakoskentie Road. Another option is to drive to the end of the Vaajakoski motorway and continue north through the Tourula district. Traffic jams may occur on this route on weekdays from 6:30 to 8:00 and from 15:00 to 17:00.
Expansion joint repairs
During the work, traffic on Rantaväylä will be maintained in both directions, but with one lane in each direction. Expansion joints on the adjacent overpass and interchange bridges will also be repaired at the same time.
Contractors will remove the old expansion joints and recast the support strips on both sides of them. According to Saastamoinen, ruts have formed on these concrete strips. Dry weather and above-zero temperatures are needed for the concrete to dry. The bridge is expected to reopen to traffic by the end of the 39th week of the year, but it will later be closed again for about a week to install new expansion joints.
