PPP candidate wins Skardu by-election in Pakistan, according to unofficial results
PPP candidate Akhtar Abbas Nashad won the by-election in Pakistan's GBA-09 Skardu-III constituency, defeating independent candidate Wazir Mohammad Salim by 455 votes. According to preliminary and unofficial results, Nashad received 8,040 votes, while Salim received 7,585.
Dawn reports on the voting results. The Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission called the by-election after the Gilgit-Baltistan Supreme Appellate Court disqualified PPP candidate Fida Mohammad Nashad. He had been declared the winner in the general election in June.
Candidates and voting
Akhtar Abbas Nashad is the son of Fida Mohammad Nashad and ran as a PPP candidate. Mohammad Ajmal participated in the election for PML-N. Former minister Mohammad Salim, who ran as an independent candidate, was one of 10 contenders who submitted documents to participate in the election.

There were 33,985 registered voters in the constituency. A local holiday was declared there on polling day to facilitate voters' participation and ensure the peaceful conduct of the election.
Security measures
More than 800 police officers, as well as GB Scouts units, were deployed to ensure security during the vote. According to the publication, the election process was generally peaceful.
There were 61 polling stations in the constituency. Of these, 25 were designated as sensitive category A, 11 as category B with a medium level of sensitivity, and another 25 were classified as regular category C.
