Colombian ANDI head Bruce Mac Master resigns — Colombia Reports

In Colombia, Bruce Mac Master, head of the National Association of Entrepreneurs of Colombia (ANDI), has resigned. This was reported by Colombia Reports. In a letter to the association, he said that the time had come to leave his position as its leader.

Statement on pressure

Mac Master explained his decision by “unexpected and troubling circumstances” that made ANDI’s work more difficult. According to him, numerous pressure factors affected the association’s ability to act freely and autonomously carry out its functions. He noted that the situation could have had negative consequences for the organization’s members and employees.

The former head of ANDI also said that the general board of directors, the executive committee, and he personally had tried to find a solution to the situation, preserve channels of dialogue, and ensure that the association could fulfill its role. According to him, these attempts did not yield results.

Reports of conflict with authorities

The resignation was preceded by reports that President Abelardo de la Espriella had allegedly instructed members of his cabinet to boycott the head of ANDI. Political outlet La Silla Vacia claimed that the dispute between the government and the association was related to the president’s law firm not being admitted to ANDI, while the association’s donations in response to the August 10 earthquake were not directed to the newly created first lady’s fund.

Mac Master expressed hope that his resignation would help restore cooperation between the national government and the business community. He had represented the interests of approximately 1,600 ANDI members since 2013.
