The Houthis have stated their willingness to abide by the ceasefire with the U.S. — CNN

The Yemeni Houthis have stated that they are prepared to adhere to the ceasefire with the United States, provided that Washington does not resume strikes on their positions.

CNN reports this.

According to group spokesman Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, the militants do not plan to attack shipping in the Red Sea or U.S. facilities unless the conflict escalates.

At the same time, he emphasized that the Houthis reserve the right to respond in the event of aggression against Yemen, and also stated their intention to “protect” the Red Sea from being used for military purposes.

The group controls most of the Red Sea coastline and has previously attacked commercial vessels linked to Israel, which has impacted global trade routes.

At the same time, in the event of an escalation of the conflict, the Houthis do not rule out the possibility of blocking the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

They also stated that they do not plan to attack Saudi Arabian ports unless Riyadh joins the escalation alongside the U.S. and Israel.

Iran refused to unblock the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for a temporary cessation of hostilities, despite a peace initiative proposed by Pakistan.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced the possibility of reaching an agreement with Iran as early as April 6, 2026, warning of the complete destruction of critical infrastructure should negotiations fail.

Prior to this, Trump issued an ultimatum to Iran’s leadership demanding that the Strait of Hormuz be unblocked by the evening of Tuesday, April 7

As a reminder, the IRGC announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and threatened a “harsh response” to ships.

The Strait of Hormuz could also become the “Trump Strait.”
