Death toll from floods on Nepal-China border rises to 1,453 — Anadolu Agency
The death toll from flash floods and landslides on the border between Nepal and China has risen to 1,453. Another 6,664 people are considered missing on both sides of the border, Anadolu Agency reports, citing authorities.

In Nepal, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority reported 1,410 deaths. It also said that 13,756 people had been rescued. The number of missing people in the country stands at 6,145, including 587 foreigners.
On the Chinese side of the border, the death toll remains at 43. Another 519 people are considered missing, including 261 foreigners in Tibet, which Beijing calls the Xizang Autonomous Region.

Cause of the disaster
The disaster occurred on August 26 after a rupture took place on the glacier of Mount Langtang Lirung in Nepal at an altitude of 5,200 meters. It triggered an ice-rock avalanche that turned into a large-scale mudflow and passed through valleys along the border.
Floods and landslides devastated Nepal's Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Kavre districts, as well as the Kathmandu Valley. In the Xizang Autonomous Region, the mudflow buried the Gyirong border crossing.
