China’s coffee market exceeds $28 billion a year — ECNS
In China, the coffee market has exceeded 200 billion yuan, or about $28 billion, per year and is growing by approximately 20% annually. This was reported by ECNS following the China Tropical Crops Industry Conference, held on September 17 in Kunming, Yunnan Province.
Rising consumption in Asia
Cao Fuliang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, stated that coffee consumption in Asia is growing four to five times faster than in other regions. Experts speaking at the conference called China one of the most dynamic coffee markets.
According to ECNS, the growth of the Chinese market is contributing to an increase in global coffee supply and processing volumes. Tao Jian, head of the Coffee Finance website, noted that China has transformed from a coffee producer and exporter into a major importer.

In his view, the country may also develop into a regional coffee trading hub. Shanghai, the Yangtze River Delta, and Yunnan could in that case become links between coffee-producing areas in Asia and other regions.
Yunnan indicators
According to the Yunnan Provincial People’s Government, the area of coffee plantations in the province reached 97,500 hectares in 2025, up 15.4% from a year earlier. About 32,500 tonnes of coffee were exported from Yunnan to 29 countries and regions, including the Netherlands, Germany, and the United States. Export volume increased by 358%.
On the same day, a provincial coffee standards committee was established in Yunnan, and new varieties and technologies for coffee breeding, cultivation, and processing were presented.
