Chinese authorities have imposed restrictions on overseas travel for leading artificial intelligence specialists working at private technology companies, including Alibaba and DeepSeek.

According to the agency, Chinese government agencies have compiled lists of engineers, researchers, and top managers whose work is considered strategically important to the state. Now, to leave the country, they must obtain official permission from regulatory authorities.
As noted, the practice of restricting travel for public sector employees in China has existed before, but extending such measures to private tech companies is an unprecedented move.
According to Bloomberg, Beijing is seeking to prevent the leakage of critical technologies amid intensifying technological rivalry with the U.S.
The tightening of controls is also linked to the scandal surrounding the Chinese AI startup Manus, whose sale to the American company Meta, according to media reports, was blocked due to concerns about the transfer of technology abroad.
As a reminder, Taiwan deployed naval forces and fighter jets to monitor yet another Chinese “combat readiness patrol” near the island.
Beijing has criticized Germany after a group of German lawmakers visited Taiwan. China stated that such trips are politically sensitive and could affect bilateral relations between the countries.
