China imposes sanctions on 40 Japanese companies over Japan’s militarization
Chinese authorities have imposed sanctions on 40 Japanese companies within the framework of export controls due to their support of Japan's militarization and growing nuclear ambitions in Tokyo. The Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China announced the ban on these entities from selling dual-use goods, with any existing activities involving such products required to cease immediately.

Additionally, 20 other Japanese companies have been placed on a watchlist due to the inability to verify the final recipients and intended uses of their goods. When applying for export licenses, the Ministry of Commerce must now obtain assurances that the products will not be used to further Japan’s militarization. The measures exclusively target dual-use items.
This decision reflects rising trade tensions between China and Japan and is likely to affect the international standing of affected Japanese firms. Further tightening of export controls by China can be expected in the near future.
